Vocational Rehabilitation Services

Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services
Department of DINE' Education, OSERS provides vocational rehabilitation services to eligible Navajo People with disabilities who are interested in going to work. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, its goal is to assist people with disabilities to obtain or maintain employment.
To be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation services, an individual must:
- Be enrolled member of an Indian Tribe
- Reside on or *near the reservation
- Have a Physical or mental impairment which constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment
- Require vocational rehabilitation services in terms of an employment outcome
Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Designed to achieve an employment objective consistent with the unique strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities and capabilities of the individual, the following are services for which an individual with a disability may qualify:
- An assessment for determining eligibility and vocational need
- Counseling, guidance and work-related placement services
- Vocational and Other Training Services
- Mental/Physical Restoration
- Maintenance for additional costs incurred while participating in rehabilitation
- Tuition, books/supplies, personal needs allowances, room/board, transportation
- nterpreter services for individuals who are deaf and services for those who are blind or visually impaired
- Occupational licenses, tools, equipment, initial stocks and supplies
- Recruitment and Training Services
- Independent Living Services
- Native Healing Services
- Information and Referral
How to Apply
Write or telephone the office nearest your home for an appointment. Agency offices are listed below. Upon completion of an application for services, OSERS staff will conduct an initial interview to determine eligibility and appropriate services consistent with the unique strengths and capabilities of the individual.
The applicant’s full participation in their vocational rehabilitation program is vital to successful rehabilitation. The applicant will be assigned a vocational rehabilitation counselor who will provide counseling and guidance, rehabilitation planning and the necessary support in their obtaining an employment outcome.
