Be Counted!

"This is your chance to make sure you are counted in the 2020 Census," said Council Delegate Edison Wauneka (Oaksprings, St. Michaels) and Vice Chair of the 2020 Census commission. "Our schools, hospitals, roads, infrastructure - they count on you!"

The goal of the census is to count every living person in the United Sates so that the results can be used to determine voting boundaries, congressional seats, spending the more than $675 billion in federal community funding each year, and more.

Your Census information will be counted only once by the United States Census commission and cannot be used or distributed for law enforcement purposes nor to determine government benefits.

There are multiple ways to record both yourself and the people in your household for the Census including:

-By Phone: 1(800)-923-8282

-By Mail: Fill out the questionnaire that was delivered to your doorstep and follow the directions to return your answers using any United States Postal Service Mailbox.

-In person Interview: Call 1(800) 923-8282 to follow up with a representative to have them follow-up or begin an interview.

"Shidine'é, this is our chance to be counted! Answering the 2020 Census is an important part of our duty and responsibility to each other. Let's all take a few minutes to complete the 2020 Census online, through the phone, by mailing it in or by completing an in-person interview!" said Miss Navajo 2019-2020, Shaandiin Parrish.

As of Aug. 18, 2020, the response rate of the Navajo Nation was approximately 16.9% whereas the National average is at 63.8%.
